Future of Medical Tourism in India

India is positioned to gain from Rs.80 one billion a year in foreign exchange of medical tourism by 2012, according to a study conducted by the Assocham. With the world class facilities easy visa process to patients who are coming from overseas
coupled with better medical equipment with emerging infrastructure, medical tourism to India may well go to a service business which can annually generate Rs.80 billion per annum by 2012.

The study on the prospects of medical tourism to earn higher Forex was made under the supervision of the health committee of Assocham. The cost of Medical treatments in india is much for various critical ailments, such as bone narrow transparent, bye-pass surgery, knee surgery and transplantation liver as compared to western countries. Accroding to the report the cost of medical treatment is very high in Western countries, which force Asian countries to explore the medical tourism possibilities.

Some of the other things which are boosting medical tourism in india include the strength of Indian traditional treatments in the field of homeopathy, naturopathy, ayurvedic and unani systems that become very popular because they do not have side
effects. More allocation for the health sector is much needed that would lead to the proliferation of new equipment and health centres of medical excellence, which in turn could eventually maintain patients from western countries.
