Unlike destinations in tahiland and malayasia, the god's own country, kerala is visited mostly visited by tourists from europe and from america. Kerala tourism is more marketed and promoted in these countries and less marketed in asian countries. As a result of this there is less tourists from asian countries like china, japan, malaysia, indonesia, thailand etc.

Accroding to reports kerala tourism is taking measures to woo visitors from these asian countries. As an initiative to promote travel in kerala in asian countries, department of Kerala Tourism has made a plan to reach out to tourists from China as part of its steps to increase the arrival of foreign tourists especially from asian countries. Discussions are on with the central government to make this happen.

Kerala Tourism and Volvo Ocean Race in Cochin

Kerala Tourism department in association with Cochin Port Trust have launched a website to showcase the stop of Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09, to be held in Kochi in December. The site www.volvoracecochin.com give detailed information on the event. MK Ramachandran, Chairman of Cochin Port Trust, and Mr. Venu, V., Secretary, Kerala Tourism, hopes that this will be a real boost to the Cochin Port Trust and Kerala tourism. The Volvo Ocean Race will start in Alicante in Spain this October. Stopover Kochi, the east end of the second phase of the race, will be 3 to December 13, 2008.

Vismayam 2008

Tourism department of kerala in association with Magic Academy has organized Vismayam 2008, an international magic festival on May 1 to 4, 2008. The Dream Season campaign, which offers vacation packages in Kerala, was launched. The campaign, which will run from September to April, offers a variety of packages at amazingly low rates. Thenmala Butterfly Park

India's foremost eco-tourism project, Thenmala, has started a new one of a kind attraction in india, a butterfly park. Kerala Forest Research Institute has artificially created 3.5 hectare park.

According to the experts already been sighted in the park. To boost the feeding and breeding of the butterflies, micro habitats with special shrubs and trees have been planted. The park has roosting plants and host plants that provide the right leafy meal to caterpillar species and plants with leaves which butterflies depend for sustaining their life.
