Ponmudi one of the hill station located on the northern part of kerala is not a highly visited tourist destination. One of the reason for that could be the distance from trivandrum airport to reach the destination and other reasons might be the lack of facilities for tourists to enjoy the destination. Only local tourists visits the hill station especially during holidays or vacation times.
As per the news from the kerala tourism department Ponmudi, the beautiful hill destination in Thiruvananthapuram, will soon be a picnic place of international standards. The minister of kerala tourism has said this while inaugurating the development activities of Ponmudi, which will be made to a charge of 60 million rupees. Accroding to the minister development plans includes, a park for children, well-lit roads, family restaurants, chalets, gate and planting saplings on both sides of the road have been given priority in development plans.

Ponmudi to receive more tourism based projects

Kerala Tourism has never been reluctant to dream, to innovate. The draft International Convention Centre in Akkulam is one such dream, with Mr. VS Achuthanandan, Chief Minister, laying the foundation stone of the International Convention Centre Complex (ICCC) at Akkulam on June 4, 2008. The Rs.8050 million project should be a real boost to tourism opportunities for the state.
Mr. Achuthanandan said that the government will give top priority to the tourism sector, with many focusing on development projects. The Presidency of the function, Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister of Tourism, has qualified as one of the proudest moments of Tourism of Kerala. "This is a giant step towards the development of the capital and the tourism sector," he said. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Venu, V., Secretary of Tourism of Kerala said that " MICE (meeting, incentive, conventions and exhibitions) tourism will get a whip - not only in the city, but also in the South - once the first phase of the ICCC is controlled. " Mr. Sivasankar, Director of Tourism of Kerala, has extended the vote of thanks.
A plenary hall with a capacity of 1500 people, a hi-tech hall, three meeting rooms, eight meeting rooms and a VIP room will be the facilities offered by ICCC. Beyond that, there will be a five star hotel, 25 luxury cabins, gym, spa, marina, water sports and a terminal.

Kerala Tourism bags the award for Best Site in the category of tourism, set up by PC World, a leading IT magazines in the country. Websites of Incredible India and Gujarat Tourism were the runner ups having secured the second and third positions.

Tourism Gujarat finished third mainly due to the impressive amount of information packed in the given space.
