Kerala Tourism has never been reluctant to dream, to innovate. The draft International Convention Centre in Akkulam is one such dream, with Mr. VS Achuthanandan, Chief Minister, laying the foundation stone of the International Convention Centre Complex (ICCC) at Akkulam on June 4, 2008. The Rs.8050 million project should be a real boost to tourism opportunities for the state.
Mr. Achuthanandan said that the government will give top priority to the tourism sector, with many focusing on development projects. The Presidency of the function, Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister of Tourism, has qualified as one of the proudest moments of Tourism of Kerala. "This is a giant step towards the development of the capital and the tourism sector," he said. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Venu, V., Secretary of Tourism of Kerala said that " MICE (meeting, incentive, conventions and exhibitions) tourism will get a whip - not only in the city, but also in the South - once the first phase of the ICCC is controlled. " Mr. Sivasankar, Director of Tourism of Kerala, has extended the vote of thanks.
A plenary hall with a capacity of 1500 people, a hi-tech hall, three meeting rooms, eight meeting rooms and a VIP room will be the facilities offered by ICCC. Beyond that, there will be a five star hotel, 25 luxury cabins, gym, spa, marina, water sports and a terminal.
